Mahtot for Future Generations is a youth-led Civil Society Organization founded by passionate young leaders committed to empowering the next generation. Since 2020, we have developed youth-focused initiatives promoting education, technology, leadership, and sustainable development, which led to our formal registration as a Civil Society Organization in Ethiopia.
The name Mahtot comes from Ge’ez, Ethiopia’s first written language, and means “light.” It reflects who we are and what we do: we exist to be a source of light for young people navigating uncertainty and illuminating a path toward opportunity, purpose, and a brighter future, especially for those who feel forgotten or without direction.
We create safe, inclusive, and inspiring spaces where young people can connect, collaborate, and become catalysts for change. Our work is guided by compassion, selflessness, and integrity—values we hold as central to how we serve, and which we believe are foundational to any community genuinely committed to lifting others up.
Guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we focus primarily on SDG 4 (Quality Education) as our anchor goal, while acting as a bridge by partnering with organizations working on the other SDGs to help ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of youth in Ethiopia and beyond, in service of the broader 2030 Agenda.
Through education, innovation, and collaboration, we equip youth with the tools, skills, and platforms to shape a better future.
